About me
Mr. Gustafson serves as a Vice President for Iteris’ Mobility Consulting Solutions division and has been with the firm since January 2024. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the transportation industry, spanning both the public and private sector, supporting Departments of Transportation in planning and designing stronger transportation infrastructure systems that improve safety and mobility. Mr. Gustafson also developed a Traffic Operations Strategic Plan for Virginia DOT, implemented a VDOT Traffic Operations Messaging Plan, Fiber Master Plan for Utah DOT, Broadband Strategic and Implementation Plan for Oregon DOT, and TMP’s for several agencies. Dean served as State Operations Engineer for Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for 6 years, where he led the largest services contract in VDOT history, numerous cross-functional internal and external initiatives, from traffic operations, connected and automated vehicles, traffic incident management, ITS standards, system engineering, to agency emergency response at the policy, legislative, strategic, and project level. Prior to moving to Virginia in 2002, Dean worked for New York State Department of Transportation in construction, planning, and traffic engineering roles. Dean served as the coordinator for the 14-member, Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition (NITTEC) for 4 years, leading strategic planning and operating their Traffic Operations Center (TOC). Mr. Gustafson Dean is a Technical Advisor to National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE). Dean was past Chair on the ITS America Broadband Task Force.
